I was invited by FTD Educação to create a double-page illustration that visually represents the difference between a densely populated place and a sparsely populated one.
To bring these two concepts to life, I drew inspiration from cultural and geographical references from Minas Gerais — a Brazilian state known for its mountains, rich culinary traditions, and the warmth of its people.
On the left side of the composition, I created a peaceful rural scene inspired by the small towns of Minas Gerais, characterized by wide open spaces, abundant nature, and a slower pace of life. On the right side, I illustrated a bustling urban landscape based on the view of Belo Horizonte (my hometown), as seen from Rua Sapucaí, one of the city’s popular tourist spots.
By exploring visual contrasts in density, color, and detail, the goal was to provide young readers with an intuitive and engaging way to understand the concepts of population and settlement.
