Published in 2022 by Editora Matrescência and written by Luiza Ghizoni, The Girl Who Knew is part of the Virtues Collection, a series of books born from the author's clinical practice with the aim of comforting children and their families during challenging times. Each volume is composed of two different stories, starting from opposite sides of the book and meeting at the center, creating a complementary and intertwined narrative. This title addresses the virtue of faith during the journey of childhood cancer treatment.
The greatest challenge in this project was to balance the honest portrayal of the difficulties faced by children and their families with a visual narrative that also conveyed hope, tenderness, and light. In one story, I illustrated the protagonist's journey from diagnosis through the delicate phases of treatment, always highlighting her inner strength and positive spirit. On the other side of the book, in the story titled The Caring Angel, the same timeline is narrated from the perspective of her guardian angel, offering an ethereal and symbolic view of unseen support and unconditional love.
To translate this duality, I created poetic illustrations with a strong emphasis on light and shadow, building an atmosphere of deep emotional resonance without losing the gentleness necessary for young readers. A work designed to touch hearts — softly, yet profoundly.
