Educational Illustration Highlights, vol.1

In 2020, Editora Moderna invited me to create a series of illustrations for their Religious Education books aimed at pre-teens. The brief called for a more sober visual language — one that could convey the weight and respect inherent to the theme, with an aesthetic inspired by classical paintings and oil works. Below, you can explore a selection of illustrations from the project.

To ground the work, I immersed myself in the study of great masters from art history, focusing on the dramatic use of light and shadow, strong contrasts, and the organic textures of traditional painting. At the same time, I conducted in-depth research on symbols and iconography from different religions, ensuring authentic and respectful representations.

The challenge was to synthesize all this research into a distinctive digital style. The result was an illustration concept that balances tradition and modernity: high contrast to highlight text areas, rich textures to enhance the backgrounds, and compositions that evoke classical art while maintaining the clarity required for young readers.
